May 12, 2016  Hiya, my name is Evan. My Xbox One controller doesn't work on Windows 7. When I plug it in, it says the driver was not found. My Xbox One Wired Afterglow Controller Doesn't Work with Windows 7. *I tried to update the drivers by downloading the Xbox controller drivers from the Xbox catalog called AMD64 and X86 or something along those. As your Afterglow controller is wired, select the 'Xbox 360 Controller for Windows' option. You want the one with the latest date. You will receive a warning about the driver potentially being incompatible, because Microsoft can't verify that it will work for your device.

[Nice Controller]Afterglow Prismatic Xbox One by PDP is AMAZING!!!

So, I posted here about a week ago asking a lot of questions about this controller that has a decent amount of reviews on too.

You can find that thread here

I wanted to follow up because I got it today and I've been playing with it on my PC for the past.... 3 hours? The best part was learning PDP actually released drivers that work for previous versions of Windows besides Windows 8-10. So YES! It works on Windows 7 just fine, plugged in and played Portal 2 for a good while.

Everything on it feels great imo. I've been needing to get experienced with Xbox controllers again for a friend of mine and I also wanted to use a controller again like I did in my youth of Nintendo and etc. Joysticks are comfortable, the buttons doesn't have as round of a top to them on the face, so I don't feel like I'm pushing bubbles. The triggers feel satisfying to press down, and some people pointed this out already but, the wire to plug in at the top, is nicely fit into the controller, so it stays snug, doesn't disconnect easily, and will be safe from outside elements like dust and etc.

The lighting is amazingly beautiful and the vibration is strong on both the base and the impulse triggers.

The lil wheels didn't feel like how I expected tbh. I thought they'd rotate fully or be a little more like a wheel that you could press in like a mouse wheel. I'm actually pleasantly surprised, because it's specifically more like a switch. To push in only, up or down. I didn't think I'd find a use for em but low and behold it felt nice to apply the crouch button and zoom to both wheels. Allowing me to crouch and aim at the same time, as well as zoom in like I was using a mouse wheel. They both are perfectly placed to use my middle fingers to hit them comfortably.

The cord is long enough for me to play all the way in the back of my bed with my computer all the way at my desk. While still having about a foot or two of cord freedom. It's so nicely customizable even without using the Xbox One app.

My only issue with it so far is something that's more of my computer's issue or possibly my headphones. The plug at the bottom that supports the audio for a headset, I tried it with some headhphones and plugged them in from my controller to the PC. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for that, either because my computer can't find the mic/headset anymore like always, because my headset may not have a mic(though I think it does?), or because that feature is more specifically made for Xbox One. My AUX input on my computer is unfortunately busted to a degree, so it would've been nice if the controller would've been a remedy for that, but I can still make do.

Conclusion: Looks like it'd be better on the Xbox One overall, because it's already outstanding on a computer in my experience so far. PDP makes a pretty nice controller and there's nothing I could say negative about it so far at all. I'm not big on having textures on the controller like rubber or anything around the grips, in fact this makes me feel like I'm holding my gamecube controller again, so maybe if that's a problem for you but otherwise, it's pretty and nice... pretty nice o3o. This gamble was well worth it.

Windows PC gamers who have been waiting for official Xbox One controller drivers can finally have that access. Microsoft has now released official 32-bit and 64-bit x86 Windows drivers for the controller.

Microsoft has been promising this support for some time. Indeed, a third party programmer was clearly getting impatient with the wait and in March he released a software hack that enabled the controller to work on Windows.

However, these newly released drivers come with the full support of Microsoft. According to Xbox Live's director of programming Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb:

The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller. Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and you'll be gaming in no time.

This driver release is actually something that Microsoft is offering a bit early to hardcore PC gamers. The same software will be included in a future automatic update to Windows.

Keep in mind these Xbox One controller drivers are for the x86 versions of Windows that run on Intel and AMD processors. The drivers do not support Windows RT, which means that owners of Microsoft's Surface RT and Surface 2 are currently out of luck. There's no word when, or if, Microsoft will offer similar drivers for Windows RT. There's also no word if there will be any future support for the controller's wireless features for Windows.
